Encaustic Workshops at Spruill Center for the Arts in Dunwoody, GA
Encaustic wax painting technique : Ironing results in a unique and beautiful experience for the artist and the viewer.
Surfaces can be created to emulate coral-thick and textural; or thin layers of pigmented, natural, unbleached beeswax can be fused to watercolor paper or wood surfaces revealing subtle, transparent layers of color that seem to pulsate and move before the eyes of the beholder.
In this encaustic painting workshop at Spruill Center for the Arts, learn the method of ironing with encaustic wax to develop what Penny calls, “Selfscapes,” representations of sky, sea, ground, or simple yet stunning abstract fields of luscious color. You will leave this workshop with several encaustic wax masterpieces on paper and wooden substrates.
While moving gracefully with the flow of the molten wax under the hot iron, you may find yourself swimming within serene waves, floating amongst translucent clouds and experiencing a healing that is born from the freedom of creating abstract beauty without restriction.
NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
